On March 20, 2025, the groundbreaking ceremony for Iraq's first waste-to-energy project was successfully concluded in Baghdad. Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani launched the construction ceremony. 

The local officials, including Haider Mohammed Makkiya, Chairman of the National Investment Commission, Ziyad Ali Fadel, Minister of Electricity, Abdul Alawi, Governor of Baghdad and Ammar Mosa , Mayors of Baghdad as well as Eric Zhan, CEO of SUS INTERNATIONAL, and other representatives of Chinese-funded enterprises in Iraq, attended the project site.

The Prime Minister congratulated the start of the implementation of the waste-to- energy project, which is part of the government's plans to transition to clean and renewable energy.

He pointed out that "today marks the beginning of a new era in waste treatment according to a model that is the most modern in the region and is consistent with our approach to confronting climate change and environmental pollution. In the future, this project will serve as a model to be promoted in other provinces to address the long-standing waste management challenges across the nation, propelling Iraq to take a firm step forward on the path of sustainable development. "

據(jù)悉，巴格達(dá)垃圾焚燒發(fā)電項(xiàng)目位于伊拉克首都巴格達(dá)，設(shè)計(jì)規(guī)模為3000噸/日，配置3條處理規(guī)模1000噸/日焚燒線，配備1臺(tái)100MW汽輪發(fā)電機(jī)組，總投資額約5億美元。項(xiàng)目投產(chǎn)后，將為1000萬人口提供固廢處置與環(huán)境綜合服務(wù)，年綠色發(fā)電7.8億千瓦時(shí)，項(xiàng)目的建設(shè)運(yùn)行可為當(dāng)?shù)貏?chuàng)造約500個(gè)就業(yè)機(jī)會(huì)。

The waste-to-energy project is located in Baghdad, the Iraqi capital. The project has a designed capacity of 3,000 tons per day, with 3 incineration lines, and is equipped with a 100MW steam turbine generator set. The total investment of the project is approximately 500 million USD. It will generate 780 million kWh of green electricity annually, which can meet 10 million people’s electricity demand. It will also create approximately 500 local job opportunities.
